There was a time when bodybuilding was not really considered a sport and saying that you we in to it conjured up images in people’s mind of knuckle dragging muscle heads that were more likely to blend a book in their protein shake rather than read one.
That all changed when Arnold Schwarzeneger came along, won the Mr. Olympia 7 times and then went on to make some of the most iconic action films in movie history. The rest has been history as they say.
Let’s not forget Lou Ferrigno who played the Hulk and a few other lesser known stars that crossed over from gym to celebrity.
Since then, the fitness industry has exploded. The range of supplements, gyms and fitness bloggers is at an all time high. Just do a search on Instagram and Facebook and you’ll find an endless supply of ripped abs and bulging biceps flexing across your screen from all over the world.
No doubt you’ll notice the state of the art modern gym equipment that’s usually the backdrop in most pics, especially those based in the western hemisphere. But what of those people living in corners of the world where access to such facilities is challenging?
Well then it helps if you have a little bit of innovative thinking in your blood. Africanbodybuildersavenue is the Instagram page of a group of Ghainaian bodybuilders that weren’t going to let lack of access to good quality equipment get in the way of their fitness aspirations.
There’s no lack of ingenuity and drive amongst the athletes and when posing without the weights in the background, it would be easy to believe that these guys train in Gold’s Gym and not a makeshift clearing in Ghana.
In an environment where sometimes basic necessities are not easily accessible, these guys have adopted the principle of ‘we’ll solve the solution to our own problem and make our own dreams come true’
